An apparatus and method are provided for producing a concrete tile from a strip of formable concrete. In one embodiment, a gas permeable membrane is positioned over the strip of formable concrete. A compression tool defines a recess surrounded by a mandrel. The inner periphery of the mandrel and the recess together define finished dimensions of the concrete tile. The strip of formable concrete and the gas permeable membrane are both sized larger than the inner periphery of the mandrel such that the mandrel contacts the gas permeable membrane and the strip of formable concrete completely about the inner periphery of the mandrel. Gas trapped in the recess of the compression tool passes through the gas permeable membrane and around the mandrel to ambient when the compression tool is pressed into the combination of the gas permeable membrane and the strip of formable concrete to produce the concrete tile. |
