Provided is a highly efficient, long-life, high-color-rendering, high-performance, white organic electroluminescent element that can improve color rendering properties, which are important to an illumination light source, and in which particularly the average color rendering index (Ra) and the special color rendering index for red (R9) are high. The organic electroluminescent element includes: a transparent electrode (1); a blue light-emitting layer (2) containing a blue light-emitting material having a maximum emission wavelength below or equal to 460 nm; a first green light-emitting layer (3) containing a first green light-emitting material having a maximum emission wavelength between 460 and 610 nm; a red light-emitting layer (4) containing a red light-emitting material having a maximum emission wavelength above or equal to 610 nm; a second green light-emitting layer (5) containing a second green light-emitting material having a maximum emission wavelength between 460 and 610 nm; and a reflecting electrode (6). The maximum emission wavelength of the first green light-emitting material is located on the short wavelength side, and the maximum emission wavelength of the second green light-emitting material is located on the long wavelength side.
