PROCESS FOR PRODUCING TALL OIL AND USE OF BRINE DEACTIVATION IN THE PRODUCTION OF TALL OIL

The invention relates to a process for producing of tall oil from soap oil and to the use of a bicarbonate brine deactivation reaction in the production of tall oil. Soap oil is produced by neutralization of tall oil soap with carbon dioxide. Bicarbonate brine remaining in admixture with the soap oil is deactivated with a first portion of a strong acid and then the soap oil is acidulated with a second portion of a strong acid in order to free the tall oil. The deactivation reaction releases carbon dioxide gas and reduces foaming in the acidulation.
