A blow-out preventer having a housing 14 split into first 14a and second 14b sections, relative movement being prevented by fasteners 16 extending through the first section into the second section. The housing further includes fluid flow passages 44 extending from the first section to the second section, the fluid flow passages being interspersed between the fasteners. The fasteners 16 and fluid flow passages 44 are arranged in a circular array around the longitudinal axis of the blow out preventer and are arranged parallel to the axis. The fluid flow passages and the fastener receiving passages, with connector pipes 52 extending the fluid flow passages outside of the housing, have openings on a shoulder portion of the housing where a smaller diameter section of the housing connects to a larger diameter section. Also disclosed is, a blow out preventer comprising a housing 14, a fluid pressure actuated locking member 56 provided in an aperture extending from the exterior to the interior of the housing. The locking member is movable within the aperture from a position totally within the aperture and one where it extends into the interior of the housing. |
