PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To properly manage attribute certificates so as not to present an attribute certificate to an unintended party without implementing special software for handling attribute certificates in a user's device. SOLUTION: In a method and a device for managing attribute certificates, a user's attribute certificate is kept in a device for managing the attribute certificates. Using only a function that can be used in a standard personal computer environment of the user, a user's device accesses the device for managing the attribute certificates in response to the request of a service providing device. An attribute certificate to be disclosed or a pointer of the attribute certificate is presented to the service provider from the device for managing the attribute certificates through the user's device.
