PURPOSE: An ingot cutting apparatus and method are provided to accurately determine the time of completion of ingot cutting by outputting a cutting completion command immediately when detecting a change in the frequency delivered from a sensor. CONSTITUTION: An ingot cutting apparatus comprises a plurality of roller(110), a wire(130) which is wound around the rollers and rotated in a closed loop, a sensor(130) which is connected to the rollers and measures the frequency delivered from the rollers, an ingot support unit(140) with a mount(141) for mounting an ingot(I), and a control unit(150) determining the time of completion of ingot cutting based on changes in the frequency delivered from the sensor.
