Method and device for detecting and classifying moving vehicles

The method involves classifying a vehicle (12) from multiple measurements of two different physical quantities, where each measurement is performed by a separate sensor device (16,22). One of the sensor devices is comprised of an induction loop (20) of an induction loop detector, where the sensor device is also provided with a magnetic field sensor. The field strength distribution of the magnetic field of the Earth is determined. An independent claim is provided for a sensor system with a sensor device for classifying a measurement area.
