A fluid-filled type vibration damping device (10) including a base component (108) and a tubular mating component (36, 200). The tubular mating component (36, 200) is externally fitted onto the base component (108) by means of a diameter-constricting caulking with a sealing rubber (148) clasped therebetween so as to constitute a mate-fastened portion (128). The tubular mating component (36, 200) extends axially outward beyond a sealed section (144) of the mate-fastened portion (128) so as to provide a caulking tube portion (146, 190, 202). A diametrical position of the tubular mating component (36, 200) at the sealed section (144) is determined by contact of the caulking tube portion (146, 190, 202) against an outside peripheral face of a positioning projection (130, 132, 180, 206) provided on the base component (108) so as to define a diametrical positioning portion. The caulking tube portion (146, 190, 202) is constricted in diameter and held in engagement with an axial edge portion (134, 136, 160, 162, 182, 184) of the positioning projection (130, 132, 180, 206) so as to form an axial positioning portion.
