Class 52(2) [Also in Group XXXII] Seat units particularly for ambulances and other vehicles and other places are arranged and mounted so that they may be converted into beds, stretcher carriers, &c. or can be removed for use as portable seats. As shown, the seat unit comprises a seat frame 1...4 and a back frame 6...9 pivoted together at 28 by means of arms 26, 27 and also at 16 by arms 29 and links 30. The back frame 6...9 is carried by a mounting member 12 pivotally secured at 13 to a bracket 14 secured to the side of the vehicle &c. The back frame 6...9 is provided with brackets 31 to which are pivoted at 32 the turned-up arms 33 of a cross member 34 carried by a sleeve 11 rotatably'mounted on the mounting member 12. The seat unit is provided with squabs 5, 10 and with legs 18, 24. Fig. 3 shows how two, seat 'units arranged in tandem in a vehicle are converted into a bed or stretcher carrier, the seat and back frames being locked in alignment by means of projections 25 on the legs 24 being engaged by slots in pivoted brackets 21 and projections 45 on the seat frame of one unit engaging a slotted member 42 on the outer end of the back frame. The seat unit may be swung up against the side of the vehicle by swing- ing the member 12 upwardly about its pivot 13.
