A heat transfer device for hybrid photovoltaic heat energy system

The heat transfer device includes degassed distilled water as a working fluid in a reduced pressure channel 16 having an upper channel 16a along which water vapour travels and a return channel 16b along which condensate returns. Heat is transferred along the pipe to a primary heat exchanger 7 (figure 4) for heating water for a domestic supply. A secondary heat exchanger 8 is selectively used to prevent the water in the primary heat exchanger exceeding a maximum desired safe temperature of 65oC, for example. Excess heat is dissipated externally to air. The heat transfer device can operate on a horizontal or inclined roof surface. The heat transfer device provides a photovoltaic array with isothermal cooling and additionally provides a hot water supply.
