A switching assembly has a switching member 14 which can move between two positions and has a locking element 32. Locking means 20 engages the switching member to lock it in a second position; is formed of a sheet of resiliently deformable material; has locking elements 22 to engage with the locking elements (fig 6, 32) of the switching member when it is in the second position and has a stabilising element such as a finger 24 to engage with a complementary stabilising element such as ridge 34 on the switch member to urge it to reside at either position. The switching member 14 can pivot between the two positions and have a truncated ridge or crest projecting progressively outward around the pivoting axis (fig 3, 16) and movement of the switching member from the first position deforms the locking element 22 until, when the switch reaches the second position, locking element 22 returns to its initial position and engages the locking element 32, at a wall at the truncated end of the crest, preventing the switch being returned from the second to the first position. The switching member may be unlocked from the second position by deforming the locking element, allowing the crest to pass past it. The locking means can be U-shaped, have tines 22, 24 to form the locking and stabilising elements; and formed of sheet metal by punching or laser cutting.
|
