PURPOSE: A lithium secondary battery is provided to prevent ignition or explosion due to heat by restraining increase of internal temperature at overcharging, and to improve a safety of a battery by quickly operating safety apparatus in a battery by generating a large amount of gas at the same time. CONSTITUTION: A lithium secondary battery comprises a negative electrode comprising a carbon material capable of absorbing and emitting lithium ion, a positive electrode comprising lithium-containing oxide, and non-aqueous electrolyte. The non-aqueous electrolyte comprises lithium salt, non-aqueous solvent, and an linear ester compound in chemical formula 1 having an ether bond. In chemical formula 1, one of R1 and R2 is a C1-5 linear or branched alkyl group, and the other is a R3OR4-group. R3 is a C1-5 linear or branched alkyl group, and R4 is a C2-5 linear or branched alkylene group. |
