PURPOSE: A monitoring system and a control method thereof are provided to rapidly correct a backlight in real time for a photographed image by pre-storing backlight masking data related to a backlight area in a memory. CONSTITUTION: A monitoring camera(1) includes a backlight determining unit(70), a memory(80) and a controller(100). The backlight determining unit determines the existence of a backlight on an image photographed by the monitoring camera. The memory stores backlight masking information. When a back light area is detected, the controller compares the backlight area and the stored backlight masking information.
