PURPOSE: A vertical friction heater is provided to be operated without a casing so that the whole volume of the heater is reduced. CONSTITUTION: A vertical friction heater comprises lower, middle, and upper fixed discs, a rotary disc(23), and a motor(1). The lower fixed disc discharges fluids in fluid pockets through a fluid receiver(21). A disc shaped friction part of the middle fixed disc is horizontally stacked on the lower fixed disc. The upper fixed disc is supplied with the fluids in an inner fluid pocket(11a), and discharge the fluids through a thrust bearing(15). The rotary disc friction-heats the fluids flowing down by gravity to the fluid pocket of the lower fixed disc from the upper fixed disc with rotating with a vertical rotary shaft(9). The motor drives the vertical rotary shaft.
