PURPOSE: A method and apparatus for MIMO(Multiple Input Multiple Output) transmission in a wireless communication system are provided to use a wireless communication network by communicating a base station with a plurality of subscriber terminals. CONSTITUTION: Base Stations(101~103) identify a reference signal pattern set for using communication with one or more subscriber terminals(115,116). The base station allocates states to one or more subscriber terminals. The base station indicates the state as a DCI(Downlink Control Information) format. The base station transmits a plurality of resource blocks in the sub frame. The base station transmits data using the sub range of antenna ports corresponding to the sub range of antenna port numbers. The base station maps reference signals corresponding to the sub range.
