PURPOSE: A secondary battery maintains short circuit by contacting second short circuit plates with connecting plates even when first short circuit plates are melted by heat. CONSTITUTION: A secondary battery comprises an electrode assembly, a case which accepts the electrode assembly, a cap assembly which tightly seals the case and includes a cap-plate, and a short element(160) consisting of first short circuit plates(161) and the second short circuit plates(162). The first short circuit plate has a round region which is projected towards the inter space of the case and edge parts which are combined with the cap plate. The second short circuit plate has a round region which is projected to the inter space of the case edge parts which are combined with the cap plate.
