Class 75 (4) An electric reading lamp, adapted to be mounted in a vehicle above a seat for two persons, comprises the combination of a hollow body part a adapted to be attached to either a luggage rack or the vehicle roof, and containing a lamp bulb m and a reflector q, and a cover b at the underside of the body part a provided with two light transmitting apertures and a pair of independently movable shutters r for controlling the light transmission through said apertures. The apertures are fitted with lenses d one of which directs a light beam vertically downward whilst the other provides an inclined beam, or both lenses may direct inclined beams. A bracket f is secured to an upward extension e of the cover b and has trunnions g engaging in slots h in a pair of lugs i formed on the body part a. Each slot h has upper inclined and lower vertical portions so that on moving the cover b laterally from the closed position the trunnions g move in the slots h to disengage a peg j at the opposite end of the cover from spring clips k on the body part a, and the cover b can then be swung downwardly about the trunnions g. Each shutter r, which is shaped to provide a fingerpiece s is held by the edges in a sheet metal frame t secured to the cover b and is pressed into contact with the outer face of the cover b by bowed spring skids u. The lamp bulb circuit is controlled by a switch adapted to be opened when both shutters d are closed, and to be closed when either or each of the shutters is opened. |
