The tank has an envelope (12) whose inner volume receives liquid i.e. fuel, where the envelope is made of plastic by blowing or of metal by stamping. A filling capacity limiting component is positioned inside the envelope, and occupies a volume corresponding to a desired filling capacity limit of the tank. The component is chosen from an air inflated flexible pocket (15), a hermetic rigid shell and an expandable foam inflatable pocket. The component is fixed by butting on reliefs (17) formed on a skin of the envelope, via fixing interfaces (16) fixed on an inner face of the envelope. An independent claim is also included for a method for manufacturing a variable-capacity fuel tank.
