<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a thermal cycler suitable for reducing a size. <P>SOLUTION: The thermal cycler includes: a reaction liquid; a mounting unit for mounting a reaction vessel filled with a liquid having different specific gravity from the reaction liquid and not mixed with the reaction liquid and including a channel moving along an inner wall in which the reaction liquid opposes; a temperature gradient forming unit forming a temperature gradient in the direction in which the reaction liquid moves with respect to the channel when the reaction vessel is mounted on the mounting unit; and a driving mechanism for rotating the mounting unit and the temperature gradient forming unit by an axis of rotation having a horizontal component to the gravitational direction, and a component perpendicular to the direction in which the reaction liquid moves through the channel when the reaction vessel is mounted to the mounting unit. A maximum distance from the axis of rotation to a point in the channel is smaller than a maximum distance connecting two points in the channel when being projected on a plane perpendicular to the axis of rotation. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2012,JPO&INPIT |
