<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of removing ions and ionizable substances from a polar liquid (10) including at least one process, and to provide a device therefor. <P>SOLUTION: In the method, the polar liquid (10) is split into a first stream (F1) and a second stream (F2), the first stream (F1) passes through an ion exchange material (2) positioned between two electrodes (4, 5) to which an electric field is applied that can be electrochemically regenerated, and the first stream (F1) flows from one electrode (4) to the other electrode (5) to move ions that are removed in a reverse direction to the first stream penetrating the ion exchange material (2), and the second stream (F2) washes the one electrode (4), and the material is regenerated with the ions that are formed on the other electrode (5).
