The apparatus (10) has breathing tubes (30) for supplying and discharging breathing air to and from a breathing mask and connected with a housing (16). An absorber (11) is arranged in the housing. An evaporation device for receiving evaporating medium in the form of evaporationable fluid e.g. water, water-containing solution or water-containing mixture, is arranged at outer sides of the breathing tubes. The evaporation device is connected with a reservoir over a supply line and completely enclosed by a casing, where the evaporation device consists of a fabric or fibrous web.
