<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a sound source detection apparatus for detecting only a necessary sound source (especially, an approaching vehicle), and to provide an approaching vehicle detection apparatus. <P>SOLUTION: The approaching vehicle detection apparatus is mounted on a vehicle to detect an approaching vehicle on the basis of the sound collected by a plurality of sound collectors. The sound collectors 11R, 11C, and 11L have directivity areas 11Ra, 11Ca, and 11La, respectively, which are wider in a horizontal direction rather than a vertical direction of the vehicle. The directivity areas 11Ra, 11Ca, and 11La are arranged so as to cross each other.
