A method for making an antibacteric coating for silicone and PVC catheters and other medical implements, characterized in that said method comprises the steps of providing a hybrid organic-inorganic composition made by a sol-gel process, including in said composition an antibacteric agent consisting of usnic acid to provide an antibacteric coating composition and applying said antibacteric coating composition to said catheter by a microwave crosslinking process.
