The processing device (2) has a tow guide path (46) for moving a filter tow strip (8) along longitudinal direction. The processing units (12,14,16,18) are arranged in series at right angle with respect to the tow guide path and are arranged above a strand unit (30) for processing the filter tow strip. An interface (54) is provided to connect the tow guide path to downstream of an input (34) of the strand unit.
