A mobile information terminal that saves energy by stopping the supply of power to sensors when an owner level is high is provided. The mobile information terminal is provided with: a gripping characteristics sample acquisition unit that acquires a gripping characteristics sample; a group of environment sensors provided with at least one sensor for outputting environment signals; a terminal status detection unit that acquires the environment signals to detect the status of the terminal; a template selection unit that selects an owner authentication template suited to the detected terminal status; an owner authentication unit that compares the acquired gripping characteristics sample with the selected owner authentication template, and outputs an owner authentication result; an owner level monitoring unit that acquires the owner authentication result, and outputs a sensor power supply off signal when the owner level exceeds a threshold value, and outputs a sensor power supply on signal when the owner level is less than the threshold value; and a power supply control unit that stops the supply of power to the sensor corresponding to the threshold value when the sensor power supply off signal has been acquired, and supplies power to the sensor corresponding to the threshold value when the sensor power supply on signal has been acquired.
