LENS DEVICE ATTACHMENT TO PRINTED CIRCUIT BOARD

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical communication module with a lens device, which allows integration of constituents and maximizes the throughput and the yield.

SOLUTION: An optical assembly is formed by providing a frame 26 made of a plastic material on a surface of a printed circuit board (PCB) 28, mounting at least one opto-electronic element 34 on the surface of the PCB within the frame, and laser-welding onto the frame a lens device 40 comprising an optical fiber port 44 and a mirror reflector redirecting optical paths by 90°.
