<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To increase output density and energy density of a battery. <P>SOLUTION: A battery or an energy device contains a first electrode having a first surface and a base part for positioning counter-electrodes 12 and 14 having the base part and a second mesh surface in the vicinity. The first surface has a mesh defining a plurality of protuberances and intercalating recesses, with a surface area at least 1.5 times a theoretical surface area of the flat and non-mesh surface. Each of the protuberances has a length l and a cross-sectional thickness a. The cross-sectional thickness a changes along the length l of the protuberance, and the cross-sectional thickness averaged over the length of the protuberance is less than 100 microns.
