<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a novel composition that contains bismaleimide and can also be used for forming a liquid crystal orientation membrane having excellent properties, as well as a novel copolymer of bismaleimide and acidic addition agent, and to provide a method for producing a novel copolymer. <P>SOLUTION: The composition containing a maleimide-based polymer, an additive agent and a solvent is a novel composition, and has excellent properties, therefore is expected to be applied to various uses.
