The present invention relates to an organic/inorganic composite containing: particles of an inorganic compound; and a polymer bound to said particles. The molecular-weight distribution of said polymer is 2.3 or less, and the inorganic-compound particles constitute at most 96% of the total mass of the organic/inorganic composite. The present invention also relates to a thermoplastic composition, a coating material, an organic/inorganic composite film, and a photonic crystal containing the abovementioned organic/inorganic composite.
