<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To appropriately correct a main scanning magnification without degrading print quality. <P>SOLUTION: An image processor 2107 converts an input image signal into pixel data for forming the electrostatic latent image corresponding to one pixel. This image data is data having a plurality of bits for driving a light source and including at least first bit data for turning on the light source or second bit data for turning off the light source. Further, when correcting the magnification of an image in the main scanning direction of a photoreceptor, the image processor performs an insertion/removal process for the first and second bit data in such a manner that when the ratio of the first to the second bit data of the pixel data after the correction is compared with the ratio of the first to the second bit rata of the pixel data before the correction, the difference between them is minimized.
