This ballast water treatment device is provided with a seawater intake line (1), a coarse filtration device (2) which removes course material in the seawater taken up by the seawater uptake line (1), and a pump (3) for pumping said seawater. Downstream of the pump (3) are further provided a disinfectant supply device (4), a holding tank (5) for holding for a prescribed time the seawater to which the disinfectant has been added supplied from the disinfectant supply device (4), a treated water pumping line (6) for pumping the treated water (W), and a ballast tank (7) for holding the treated water (W) pumped through the treated water pumping line (6). The disinfectant used as the ballast water disinfectant contains chlorinated isocyanuric acid.
