<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus, such as a copy machine, a printer, a facsimile, or a plotter, that detects an image carried by an endless belt-shaped image carrier wound around a plurality of members and that ensures detection accuracy for the image with a groove or the like formed in a member around which the image carrier is wound, and an image control method. <P>SOLUTION: The image forming apparatus includes: an endless belt-shaped image carrier 11 traveling while carrying an image; a plurality of winding members 12Y, 12M, 12C, 12BK, 72, and so forth around which the image carrier 11 is wound; detecting means 88 for detecting the image carried by the image carrier 11 at a predetermined position of the image carrier 11 in the width direction; and tension adjusting means 89 for adjusting the tension of the image carrier 11. At least one of the winding members 12Y, 12M, 12C, 12BK, 72 is a first member 72 having a recess at the predetermined position, and the detecting means 88 detects the image carried by the image carrier 11, with the tension of the image carrier 11 reduced by the tension adjusting means 89, and controls the image to be formed. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2012,JPO&INPIT |
