The present invention relates to a method for producing gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA) from glucose using recombinant Escherichia coli strains, and more particularly, to a method for producing GABA by means of the recombinant Escherichia coli strains which the have the ability to transform glucose to produce GABA, or by means of the recombinant strains produced by transforming succinicsemialdehyde dehydrogenase (SucD) and GABA 4-aminobutyrate aminotransferase (GabT) into said recombinant Escherichia coli strains. The recombinant Escherichia coli strains have the ability to transform glucose to produce GABA, and therefore the method of the present invention may be effectively used in techniques for producing GABA.
