<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a contact pin which can be easily molded and stabilize a resistance value, and a socket for an electrical component. <P>SOLUTION: A contact pin 18 electrically connects a wiring board P arranged at one end with an IC package 12 arranged at the other end. The contact pin 18 has a first contact member 23 contacting the wiring board P, a second contact member 24 contacting the IC package 12, and a coil spring 25 made of a conductive material energizing the first contact member 23 and the second contact member 24 in a direction for separating them. The first contact member 23 is formed by press punching molding, and has an insertion rod part 23a inserted in the coil spring 25, a contact part 23b contacting the wiring board P, and a step part 23c formed on a base end of the insertion rod part 23a and contacting an end of the coil spring 25.
