The method involves delaying switching-on of a redundant power input (6) in dependence of time course of load current (I). The current is recognized as short-circuit current when a detected value of the current is greater than a threshold value for safe actuation of fuse elements (F1, F2). Switching contacts (S1, S2) are operated by a drive (10) based on a control signal (14), where the drive is connected with a control device (12) i.e. microcontroller. A current detector is provided with a power input device i.e. current transformer, for receiving the current. An independent claim is also included for a device for switching between a power input and a redundant power input.
