<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a volume control apparatus and a volume control method that can adjust a maximum output level of sounds in a band with which a user feels excessive in actual life without asking the user to hear test audibility data. <P>SOLUTION: The volume control apparatus includes: a sound input section 11 for converting an input sound to a sound signal; a band division section 12 for providing divided bands of band-divided sound signals S2; an excessive output notification section 13 for outputting excessive output notification information S3 when a user determines that an output sound from the apparatus is excessive; a correction band determination section 14 for calculating, for each divided band of band-divided sound signals S2, audible signal distribution information S4 in the absence of output of the excessive output notification information S3 and excessive signal distribution information S5 in the presence of output of the excessive output notification information S3, and determining a correction band according to the calculated audible signal distribution information S4 and excessive signal distribution information S5; and a sound output control section 15 for controlling the volume of a sound signal in the decided correction band in providing an output sound. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2012,JPO&INPIT |
