The internal combustion engine apparatus has a valve lift switching unit (11) and cam tracks, where the valve lift switching unit is provided to open an exhaust valve temporarily during an intake. A throttle device (15) is provided for setting an intake area, where the throttle device is adjusted by a control- and regulating unit (16). The exhaust gas recirculation of the throttle device is adjusted by the control- and regulating unit. The position of the throttle device is adjusted by the control- and regulating unit as a function of an internal combustion engine temperature. An independent claim is provided for a method for operating an internal combustion engine apparatus.
