Producing spherical, stress-birefringent particles, which are free of internal stresses, comprises introducing a single- or multi-component solidifying liquid (d) into a suspending liquid (c) and removing the solidified particles from the forming slurry. An independent claim is also included for the spherical stress-birefringent particles obtained by the above method.
