The method involves partially forming a carrier (1) by articulately connected segments (3-5) that are arranged in series and movable from a stand-by position to a working position in which turning movements of the segments are downwardly limited. An endless belt (7) is arranged as a loop around the carrier and brought into an intended position in a paper manufacturing machine (2). The segments are helically rolled in the stand-by position. The carrier are horizontally extended or diagonally extended at an angle of about 15 degrees in the working position. An independent claim is also included for a device for inserting an endless belt into a paper manufacturing machine.
