PURPOSE: An authentication method for communication connection, the gateway apparatus thereby, and a communication system thereby are provided to improve reliability by accurately providing a home security service. CONSTITUTION: A communication system(100) comprises a gateway unit(101) and a terminal(102). The gateway unit and the terminal can transmit and receive designated data through a communication network(170). The terminal can be connected to the communication network by electronic devices including a cellular phone, a notebook, a PDA(Personal Digital Assistant), or a PMP(Portable Multimedia Player). The communication network can be formed by various communication network standards like Local LAN(local area network), a WAN(wide area network), a WLAN(Wireless LAN) (Wi-Fi), a Wibro(Wireless broadband), a CDMA(Code Division Multiple Access), or WCDMA (Wideband Code Division Multiple Access).
