[Also in Group IX] A bonded fibrous mat is formed by projecting a strand 15 of glass filaments on to a deflecting surface 18 and thence on to a conveyer 25 (see Group IX). The deflection causes the strand to curl and the filaments in the strand to fuzz or disperse to some extent. Binder, which may be phenol formaldehyde, polystyrene, acrylic resin, starch or gum is applied by a spray 21. The mat is then heat-cured in an oven 26 and wound into a roll 28. |
