<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a damping device of an elevator whose cost is reduced by eliminating the need of an expensive vibration sensor. <P>SOLUTION: A plurality of actuators 13 for vertical direction and actuators 14 for horizontal direction which damp the vibration transmitted to a car 4 are disposed between the outer wall of the car 4, a car frame 2, and a floor part 2b. A damping control device 20 performs damping operation by the actuators 14 for horizontal direction at all times.
