717,778. Making boxes. INTERNATIONAL PAPER BOX MACHINE CO. March 10, 1952, [March 23, 1951.] No. 6152/52. Class 18. Prescored carton blanks are drawn through a forming channel by suction devices which pull them individually from the base of a stack. The blanks, which may include a lid portion 29, are positioned by rods 61-64 above the forming channel comprising an upper set of folding elements 70, 71 and a lower set 90, 91 at right angles to the first. Suction tubes 110-113, carried by a reciprocating slider 121, grip the lowest blank and pull it past the elements 70, 71, when ridges 75, 775 fold up the end panels 21, 22, and surfaces 76, 776 fold up notched tabs 25-28 to a lesser extent. The elements 90 first and 91 later fold up side panels 23, 24 as the blank continues downwards, and devices 80, 780 assist the interlocking of tabs 26, 28 and 25, 27. The completed box is released by the suction tubes above a shoot 150, into which it is propelled by a leaf spring 153 (Fig. I) biased outwardly by the downward descent of the box. The box falls from the] shoot on to a conveyer 156 where it is aligned by reciprocating fingers 164 and the interlock of the tabs 25-28 assured by weighted rollers 170 running along the upper edges of the tabs as the box is removed by the conveyer. All elements of the machine are adjustable for forming various sizes of box. |
