In the production of hydrogen by interacting carbon monoxide with water vapour, an excess of hot water is employed in a vaporization stage such as to supply all the water vapour required in the reaction and such that said water is incompletely vaporized, the unvaporized water together with make-up water is injected into the reaction product gases in order to reheat the water and condense excess water vapour from said gases and the resulting hot water is returned to the vaporization stage after further heating by means of an external source of heat. Gas- or oil-firing, or waste heat from other processes, may be employed as the external heat source.
|
