A method of electrical impedance tomography (EIT) is specified where data analysis and reconstruction is possible when one or more electrodes are in a â fault stateâ A, i.e. are disconnected from the skin of a patient, is present. The method comprises identifying an electrode A which is not in contact with a subjectâ s body as in a fault state, by measuring impedance; performing current injections in such a way that at least the electrode in a fault state A is skipped over 23, 24, 25; and determining voltage potentials in the region of the faulty electrode in such a way that the electrode in a fault state A is skipped over 23, 24, 25 at least once. The disconnected electrode A is skipped over 23, 24, 25 meaning that additional measurements are taken between electrode pairs e.g. CB, CD, EB surrounding the faulty electrode A. The resulting measurements mean there is no blind spot in the final EIT image cased by the faulty electrode.
