The charging station (1) has output terminal (6) that is connected with an input terminal (7) of an electric vehicle (4) via a charging cable (2), for charging energy storage device (3) of the electric vehicle with charging current. A control unit (ST) is provided for controlling fault current protective switch unit (FI) to switch off the charging line upon detection of a fault current. The disconnection of charging current load signal line is performed in response to signal generated by program executed in control unit, and control signal and status signal (Z2) of switching unit.
