<p>PURPOSE: A touch screen device based on a touch pattern and a controlling method thereof are provided to variously execute a motion of an electronic device without using a hand, thereby decreasing inconvenience of a input. CONSTITUTION: An area calculating unit(131) calculates an area of a touch pattern by receiving length and width data of the touch pattern provided from a touch pattern detecting unit(120). An area comparing unit(132) compares the area of the touch pattern with a critical area. A length comparing unit(133) compares the length with critical length if the area is smaller than the critical area. A width comparing unit(134) compares the width with critical width if the area is bigger than the critical area. A determining unit determines the touch pattern of each part of a hand corresponding to a comparing result.
