Method for separating ethylal from ethanol and mixtures containing ethylal

Separating ethylal from a feed stream 1 containing ethanol, ethylal and optionally water comprises (a) providing the feed stream 1; (b) feeding the feed stream 1 and a recycle stream 5 containing ethanol and ethylal to a first distillation step at 0.1-32 bar and distilling to obtain a stream 2 containing ethanol and ethylal, where concentration of ethylal in stream 2 is higher than the stream 1; and (c) distilling the stream 2 in a second distillation step at 0.2-33 bar to obtain the recycle stream and a stream 6 containing ethylal.
