The powertrain has an exhaust gas recirculation module including a heat exchanger for cooling exhaust gases and a short-circuit valve (74) provided for the heat exchanger. A pneumatic circuit (20) activates the valve, where pressure in the pneumatic circuit is maintained by a vacuum pump (22) during operation of an internal combustion engine e.g. diesel engine or heat engine. The pneumatic circuit includes a nozzle (30) arranged in an inlet manifold (28) of the engine and adapted to maintain the pressure of the pneumatic circuit during shut-down of the engine. An independent claim is also included for a method for actuating a short-circuit valve in a powertrain.
