[Also in Group XXXIV] A wheel-bearing arrangement, particularly for caster wheels, comprises an axle 26 extending through a cylindrical bore 23 in the wheel hub 22, a roller bearing disposed between the axle 26 and bore 23, and end sealing devices 40 secured in the wheel hub, each comprising an inner washer 41 and an outer member 42 between which is defined an annular chamber in which an O-ring tightly embracing the axle 26 is disposed. The O-ring is coated with grease to provide an effective seal. The bearing comprises cylindrical rollers 30 located in end rings 31 and the outer race comprises a thin resilient split sleeve 32. The member 42 may be press fitted or screwed within the bore 23 or, alternatively, it may be held in position by an outer annular sheet metal member which is press fitted in the bore. The members 41, 42 may be of sheet metal, and various shapes are described. A cap may be secured to the outer end of the hub. |
